Is Delta 8 Safe? Find Out Why It’s So Well-Tolerated

is delta 8 safe

Cannabis products have skyrocketed in popularity over the last few years. With this popularity, research in the hemp industry has continued to flourish, leading those in the industry to discover more of the benefits of cannabinoids. One cannabinoid in particular — Delta 8 THC — has just as many benefits as CBD. But is Delta 8 safe?

Plenty of Delta 8 research is underway, and many brands have already adopted D8 into their repertoire — including us! And as one of the leaders in the D8 market, we’re ready to answer some of the most common questions about D8 so that you can try it confidently. Let’s learn more together!

Is Delta 8 Safe?

Yes, Delta 8 THC is generally well-tolerated and trustworthy, especially when suggested dosing amounts are followed. Since it’s not as potent as Delta 9 THC, its effects are also known to not be as overwhelming. This makes D8 perfect for those who want to experience more of a euphoric boost than CBD offers but don’t want to feel any psychoactive and intoxicating effects.

Delta 8 is also federally legal because it is derived from hemp, which is part of the cannabis Sativa plant family. According to the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived CBD products are federally legal when they contain 0.3% Delta 9 THC or less. Of course, restrictions still vary by state, so make sure you do your research before purchasing or trying to travel with any D8 products.

What is Delta 8?

Delta 8 THC (or Delta 8 tetrahydrocannabinol) is a cannabinoid naturally found in the cannabis plant. Unlike CBD and Delta 9 THC, though, Delta 8 is found in very small amounts — and by small, we mean less than 1% per hemp plant.

Since it’s found in such small amounts, it can be much more expensive and tricky to cultivate than other compounds. Fortunately, scientists have come up with clean conversion processes that make it more accessible for all. We’ll talk more about this process in a bit!

Is Delta 8 the Same as CBD?

While they’re both cannabinoids, Delta 8 and CBD are not the same thing. Unlike Delta 8 and 9 THC, CBD does not produce any invigorating or euphoric effects. Because of this, it is also present in products made for children and pets.

Since CBD has been on the market for much longer than Delta 8, there’s also a lot more research supporting its benefits and effects. So much so that there’s an FDA-approved drug containing CBD. Epidiolex, formulated to help treat involuntary convulsions, can be prescribed to those ages 1 and up.

While there aren’t many clinical findings for Delta 8 yet, we’re optimistic about what clinical trials will find soon!

Is Delta 8 the Same as Delta 9?

Though they almost have the same chemical structure, Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC are not the same. Their biggest commonality is that they both have a double bond on a chain of their carbon atoms. However, this double bond is located in different locations — on the 8th chain for D8 and the 9th chain for D9. This bond location is what makes D9 THC more potent than D8!

Delta 9 THC is popular for being the main psychoactive compound found in marijuana. While it can be derived from both hemp and marijuana, it’s not as common for it to be derived from industrial hemp.

Why Is Delta 8 a Safe Alternative Over Delta 9?

Delta 8 products are more reliable and trustworthy than most Delta 9 products because most D9 products are largely unregulated. Again, while D9 can be derived from both hemp and marijuana, it’s very often derived from marijuana. In those instances, it’s not following the Farm Bill and isn’t regulated as a result.

Fortunately, since legal Delta 8 THC products are often derived from hemp plants, they’re much more controlled than most Delta 9 products. When products aren’t regulated, it’s much easier for them to contain ingredients that may not be as good for your body (like heavy metals or other by-products).

Unregulated products may also contain over the legal 0.3% Delta 9 THC threshold. This means that you’ll have a much higher likelihood of purchasing a product that is a psychoactive substance. Consuming a product like this could also cause you to experience adverse health effects.

Where Does Delta 8 Come From?

As we briefly mentioned above, Delta 8 is a naturally occurring compound found in the hemp plant. Since it’s found in such small quantities, though, it would be too expensive to try and cultivate it from the plant itself. This is why scientists and other experts in the hemp industry have found more effective ways to produce D8 products!

How Is Delta 8 Made?

Though Delta 8 THC can be converted in a handful of ways, not all methods are equal. At Hollyweed, we use isomerization to cleanly convert our Delta 8. This method uses heat and pressure to convert hemp-derived cannabidiol (or CBD) into Delta 8 extract. After it’s converted to Delta 8, it can go into all of your favorite D8 products.

But What About Delta 8 Flower?

Once CBD turns into Delta 8, one of the products we can turn it into is D8 flower. Delta 8 flower is made by either spraying CBD hemp flower with D8 extract or dusting it with D8 distillate. While both methods are equally effective, dusting usually produces a more potent flower that may produce stronger effects.

Delta 8 Benefits and Effects

The main reason why people have come to love Delta 8 so much is that it has so many great benefits and effects. Let’s take a look at a few.

Benefits

Like CBD, Delta 8 offers many benefits that can help boost one’s overall wellness. These benefits can help you answer whether Delta 8 is safe. D8’s been known to lend a helping hand with:

  • Promoting better, natural sleep
  • Soothing general discomfort and soreness
  • Easing upset thoughts or nervousness
  • Alleviating aches and tension
  • Calming and lifting your mood
  • Boosting appetite
  • Settling queasy stomachs
  • Stimulating proper digestion

Effects

Delta 8 is also consumed for its effects along with its many benefits. If you’re a fan of feeling warm and fuzzy, D8 may be the experience you’ve been searching for.

With mildly euphoric effects, D8 is the perfect midway between the soothing calm of CBD and the buzz of Delta 9 THC. With D8, you can enjoy feeling elevated without worrying about any overwhelming or intoxicating effects.

Identifying Quality Delta 8 Products

Even though it’s newer on the market, there are still plenty of factors that can help you determine whether a Delta 8 THC product is of high quality or not. We’ve listed out some of the things we look for when shopping for D8.

Buy From a Reliable Shop

The best way to start is by browsing for Delta 8 products at a reliable place. While gas stations and convenience stores may have D8 readily available, these kinds of shops may not be able to tell you whether their products were tested at third-party labs or not.

Delta 8 products that come from well-rated dispensaries are typically manufactured with safety concerns in mind, making them better quality products from the start. They’re also more likely to have better ingredients.

Having Trouble? Try Shopping Online!

Though it may be convenient for some to shop in brick-and-mortar stores, Delta 8 may not be as easy to come by for others. This is one of the many reasons why shopping online for D8 can be great.

Not only will you be able to find a long list of products, but you’ll also be able to easily compare prices, read customer reviews, check out brands’ refund and return policies, and more.

How To Use Delta 8

There are many different ways to consume Delta 8 THC! Delta 8 can be:

  • Sublingually applied: This means applying it directly underneath your tongue. When you consume D8 this way, you’ll feel its effects 15-30 minutes after application.
  • Smoked: One of the quickest consumption methods, you’ll feel D8’s effects immediately to 30-90 seconds after inhaling a D8 product.
  • Orally ingested: When you orally ingest D8, you’ll begin to feel its effects 45 minutes – an hour after ingestion. Remember that this time will vary based on when you last ate and how much you ate.
  • Vaporized: Like smoking, you’ll be able to feel D8’s effects immediately to 30-90 seconds after inhaling D8 through a vape product.

Which Consumption Method Is Best?

There is no best method of consumption! The best way to consume Delta 8 is whatever feels best for you and your body. If you’re someone who doesn’t prefer to smoke, then consuming D8 sublingually or through oral ingestion may be the best method for you.

Generally speaking, though, the longer that it takes for Delta 8’s effects to kick in, the longer you’ll get to experience its effects. That means that if you’d prefer to experience its effects for 4-8 hours instead of 3-4 hours, then consuming D8 orally or through sublingual application may be the better choice for you.
