Can You Vape CBD Tincture? The Do’s & Don’ts of Vaping Cannabidiol

can you vape cbd tincture

Vaping is one of the most efficient, hassle-free, and fun methods to enjoy CBD! However, if you’re new to CBD products, you may be wondering whether there’s a difference between CBD tincture, oil, and juice (or e-juice). This leads many to ask, “Can you vape CBD tincture?”

Both CBD tincture and vape juice are great for feeling CBD’s many beneficial effects. While one is entirely safe to use with your vape pen, the other is harmful to vaporize and inhale. Follow along to learn about the differences between the two and how you can use each product to your advantage!

What Is CBD Tincture?

CBD tinctures are liquid cannabidiol (CBD) products made for oral ingestion. We at Hollyweed use “tincture” and “oil” to refer to the same thing, but it’s important to note that we do not mean vape juice. CBD tinctures are made by soaking hemp extract in a liquid.

Tinctures are classically made using alcohol. The alcohol would efficiently carry the beneficial substance throughout our body (which is why we call it a “carrier”). Today, many manufacturers use food oils like olive or coconut oil as the carrier instead. Hollyweed’s CBD oil does not contain alcohol.

By soaking the hemp in a liquid and applying low heat, the natural cannabinoids infuse into the liquid, resulting in CBD oil. Some tinctures are combined with other valuable ingredients like hemp seed oil to create a CBD product that maximizes its efficiency and benefits.

Tinctures are a top-rated product because of their high CBD concentrations. Higher concentrations typically mean that the product has higher bioavailability, which is our body’s ability to absorb CBD.

There are many ways to consume CBD oil tinctures, and their fantastic versatility is part of what makes them so well-liked. You can ingest CBD oil directly, add it to your food, or even drop some under your tongue to feel the incredible, calming effects!

How CBD Works

Many people have started using CBD products to help keep their body and mind in peak condition. You can try CBD vape, as CBD is a naturally occurring compound extracted from hemp that can support our bodies in many ways.

When we consume CBD, it enters our body and reacts with the cannabinoid receptors to boost the functions of our endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is one of our body’s most critical systems, responsible for regulating our sleep, mood, memory, appetite, and digestion.

By supporting our ECS, CBD brings our body closer to an equilibrium, helping us function better and more efficiently. Some of the many things CBD can improve in our lives are:

  • Promotes sleep
  • Helps relieve discomfort
  • Enhances mood
  • Regulates digestion
  • Improves appetite
  • Increases relaxed feelings

Although hemp is considered a cannabis plant, it is far different from its cousin marijuana. Marijuana has high THC levels, the compound responsible for giving you high and intoxicating sensations. Hemp has low THC and high amounts of CBD, which is non-psychoactive and should not leave you feeling high.

Side Effects

Many people have switched over to using CBD products because it offers a wide range of benefits and very few side effects. Most people tolerate CBD exceptionally well and rarely experience adverse effects. Any reported side effects are typically minor and go away quickly.

Some of the potential side effects that could come up are:

  • Dry mouth
  • Mild dizziness or nausea
  • A slight change in appetite or mood
  • Diarrhea

What’s the Difference Between CBD Tincture & CBD Vape Oil?

While CBD tinctures are made for oral ingestion, vape oils are designed to be heated and inhaled as a vapor. You may see some brands refer to their vape-safe liquids as “oil,” but we at Hollyweed try to avoid referring to vape juice as oil. This is to avoid confusion between CBD tincture (often called benefits CBD oil, not safe to vape) and vape juice (often called e-juice, safe to vape).

Vaping is one of the most popular ways to enjoy CBD because it’s straightforward, fast-acting, and portable. You can take it anywhere and whip it out anytime for a quick CBD hit. It’s perfect for those moments when you need a brief second to pause and clear your head.

CBD oil is often used when people are looking for mellow, sustained effects that can last throughout the day. Despite its higher CBD concentrations, anything ingested orally typically has a lower bioavailability (around 10-20%) since it needs to pass through the digestive system. However, CBD oils often have the longest-lasting effects of all the consumption methods (6-8 hours).

Inhaling smoke or vapor is one of the fastest and most efficient ways to feel CBD’s effects. Inhalation’s bioavailability is roughly 40%, and the effects kick in almost immediately. However, the tradeoff is that the effects do not last as long as tinctures (3-4 hours).

The time CBD’s effects last can vary depending on the person based on factors like age, weight, tolerance, fatigue, what they’ve had to eat that day, and how long it’s been since their last meal.

Can You Vape CBD Tincture?

No! CBD oil tincture is not made to be heated or vaped in any way. When you want to vape CBD, make sure it is safe for inhalation. If it does not explicitly state on the packaging that it is safe to vape, contact the manufacturer to confirm.

What Happens If You Vape CBD Tincture?

You should never vape CBD oil because vaporizer pens are not designed for the compounds inside tincture. Doing so could ruin your vape pen and potentially burn the product. The essential oils inside CBD tincture are not meant to be heated, and inhaling their vapors could be toxic.

CBD vape juice is often made with a thinning agent, whether it’s natural terpenes or other solvents like propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), or polyethylene glycol (PEG). These additives allow the oils to become easily heated into a smooth and (most importantly) safe vapor.

Many CBD oils are also made with various chemicals or preservatives that may not be safe for vaping. As a good rule of thumb, it’s always best to read the ingredients label of any product you consume to know what you are putting in your body.

Failure to follow these directions can result in a severe condition called lipoid pneumonia. Lipoid pneumonia occurs when the oil or fat molecules from the CBD tincture reach the lungs through inhalation. These oil molecules can get trapped in the lungs, causing inflammation and other serious health issues.

Other symptoms of lipid pneumonia include:

  • Fevers
  • Excessive coughing
  • Chest pain
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)
  • Coughing up blood (hemoptysis)

Lipoid pneumonia does not occur often, so there is limited research on treatment and recovery options. However, as long as you are not vaping or inhaling CBD oils, you’ll be just fine!

Which CBD Products Are Best for Vaping?

A great place to start if you are new to vaping CBD is to try out disposable vape pens. Disposable vape pens come pre-filled, ready for you to start using right out the box. Another great introduction to vaping is rechargeable vape pens. The cartridges containing the CBD vape juice are usually replaceable, making them extremely easy to swap out for new ones once they’re empty. You won’t need to worry about clean-up or maintenance with these vape pens.

Final Thoughts – Can You Vape CBD Tincture?

Whether you are vaping CBD or using tincture drops, there’s no wrong method for enjoying CBD. However, it’s essential to learn that CBD vape juice and CBD tincture are two different products that shouldn’t be interchanged. Vaping CBD tincture can be extremely dangerous and harmful to your body.

As long as you understand the different methods of consuming CBD, you should have a great experience all around. After all, CBD is meant for everyone to take control of their lives and add a little boost to their daily routines. Enjoy!
